Football player Daniel Sturridge punished for insider information

Former Liverpool footballer Daniel Sturridge is out of action until mid-June for violating betting rules. He was found guilty of telling his brother to bet on his transfer to Spanish Seville. And that means providing insider information.

Football players are not allowed to bet directly or through others on any football event and this includes betting on player transfers. Providing information that is then used for betting is also prohibited.

Initially, the athlete was banned from playing for 6 weeks, but the Football Association filed an appeal. The retrial resulted in the ban being extended until 17 June and the fine doubled to £150,000. As a result, Sturridge and the Turkish club Trabzonspor terminated the contract.

In his video address, the football player says that he considers it wrong if he continues to receive a salary from a team to which he cannot give anything. He also noted that during the appeal it was found that neither he nor anyone else had made any bets. Despite this, he was still punished. Sturridge also expressed the opinion that the practice of placing bets on the transfer of players to clubs should be stopped.
